Proxel® BZ

Proxel® BZ by Arxada is an aqueous dispersion of 1-2-benzisothiazolin-3-one and zinc 2- pyridinethiol-1-oxide. Used for latex emulsions and paints. Proxel® BZ prevents growth of even high concentrations of fungal organisms.

Overview

Proxel® BZ is a versatile in-can preservative from LANXESS (formerly Lonza), designed for the preservation of water-based products such as paints, adhesives, and polymer emulsions. It is based on 1,2-Benzisothiazolin-3-one (BIT) technology and offers broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, ensuring protection against bacteria, fungi, and yeast. Proxel® BZ is formaldehyde-free, VOC-compliant, and exhibits excellent thermal and pH stability, making it ideal for environmentally conscious formulations and high-performance industrial applications.

Benefits

  • BIT-Based Technology: Proven broad-spectrum antimicrobial action.

  • Formaldehyde-Free: Suitable for low-VOC and eco-friendly systems.

  • Wide pH Stability: Effective across a range of 4–12.

  • Thermal Stability: Withstands high-temperature processing and storage.

  • Long-Term Preservation: Extends shelf life of sensitive formulations.

  • Regulatory Compliance: Meets global standards for industrial biocides.

Applications

  • Waterborne Paints & Coatings – Protects decorative and industrial paints during storage.

  • Adhesives & Sealants – Prevents microbial contamination in aqueous adhesive systems.

  • Polymer Emulsions – Maintains stability in latex and synthetic dispersions.

  • Construction Chemicals – Provides in-can protection for admixtures, plasters, and mortars.
